Context
In Acts 8, the gospel is moving beyond Jerusalem, and Philip's ministry among the Samaritans and the Ethiopian shows the widening reach of Christ's kingdom. The chapter's baptism scenes belong to that outward expansion of the gospel and the immediate obedience of those who receive it.
Common Interpretations
A textual note: verse 37, in which the eunuch makes a verbal confession of faith before baptism, is absent from the earliest and most reliable manuscripts and is omitted in most modern translations, including this one. The same caution applied to Mark 16:9-20 applies here. The Ethiopian eunuch's response is the NT pattern — immediate. No delay. No deferral. Genuine faith produces immediate obedience. The question "what prevents me?" is the right question for every believer.
