Context

Common Interpretations
The Word itself. Psalm 119:105 — "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Scripture is not a static document awaiting supplementation by personal signs. It is living and active (Hebrews 4:12), sufficient to equip the believer for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Prayer and wisdom. James 1:5 — "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him." The gift promised in response to asking is wisdom — the sanctified judgment to navigate circumstances — not a sign pointing to a predetermined answer. The counsel of others. Proverbs 15:22 — "Without consultation, plans are frustrated, but with many counselors they succeed." The community of believers, grounded in the same Word, is itself a means of guidance.
