Philippians 1:9-11

(LSB) 'And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.'

Context

In Philippians 1, Paul writes from imprisonment with joy rooted in the advance of the gospel and the work of Christ in His people. His prayers in the chapter are shaped by spiritual growth, discernment, and fruit that glorifies God.

Common Interpretations

Three different letters, three different churches, three different situations — and the same pattern every time. Paul never once asks God to fix a circumstance. He asks that people would know God more deeply, love more fully, and walk in a way that honors Him. That is what Paul understood intercession to actually be for.
