Context
In Ephesians 2, Paul contrasts humanity's former death in sin with God's saving action in Christ. The chapter binds grace, faith, new creation, and the making of one new people together, so its statements about salvation belong inside the whole gospel movement from death to life.
Common Interpretations
The debt — the wages of sin (Romans 6:23) — is cancelled at faith through the sacrifice of Christ. This is the forgiveness of the debt: aphesis — a releasing. Heaven is secured. The Holy Spirit indwells. None of this waits for baptism.
