Colossians 1:9-11

(LSB) 'For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience.'

Context

In Colossians 1, Paul magnifies the supremacy of Christ and prays that believers would walk in a manner worthy of Him. The chapter ties knowledge, spiritual fruit, endurance, redemption, and Christ's cosmic lordship together into one unified vision of Christian life.

Common Interpretations

Three different letters, three different churches, three different situations — and the same pattern every time. Paul never once asks God to fix a circumstance. He asks that people would know God more deeply, love more fully, and walk in a way that honors Him. That is what Paul understood intercession to actually be for.
