Context
In 1 Corinthians 14, Paul is correcting disorder in the gathered church. The whole chapter is governed by intelligibility, order, and edification, so individual instructions in the chapter must be read within that larger concern for building up the body.
Common Interpretations
The underlying danger is this: we have mistaken performance for presence, goosebumps for godliness, and replaced reverence with noise. Worship has been redefined around what it does to me and how it makes me feel, rather than what I offer in reverence to God.
